Shining a Spotlight on Women in Trades

March is Women's History Month

As we head into March, we are also entering Women's History Month. We’d like to shine a spotlight on something that not only bends traditional gender norms but has given female and female-identifying individuals, independence with a specialized career.

As per the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, there is a growing trend of women pursuing trade careers. According to the research, the percentage of women employed in trades has risen by over 30% in the past five years. Considering the anticipated job expansion and economic opportunities available, pursuing a career in the trades, particularly wood flooring, can be both rewarding and fulfilling.
 
From selling products to managing company finances, women are making significant contributions across various roles in the flooring industry. We are thrilled to highlight this amazing educational non-profit called WIFI (Women In the Floorcovering Industry). Their initiatives include scholarships for continuing education, professional development, and mentorship opportunities.

WIFI’s mentorship program allows women to become mentors or mentees to work with one another. They organize workshops and conferences around the country to attract, educate, and encourage females to uncover a passion for starting a business and learning about flooring retail. They also offer Power Hour, which is a monthly call anyone can join, that provides coaching for both work and life and are archived for reference. WIFI is relatively new, established in 2021, and we hope to see them around for a very long time.
